About The Express:
In early 2009, WNYC will introduce a groundbreaking program uniquely designed to illuminate the humanity in all New Yorkers. The Express is WNYC's hyper-local interactive news-driven public affairs magazine and talk program. Program features include an ensemble cast to provide diverse perspectives and unique access points to communities throughout New York; Interactivity as a tool for inclusion and engagement; monthly civic dialogue forums where multimedia technologies, artistic performances, and scholarly work serve as the catalyst for public dialogue on social issue most impacting New Yorkers.
The Express will be relevant on-air, on-line, and on-stage a media program equally valuable on WNYC radio, wnyc.org, and in collaboration with The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. The goals of The Express are to present authentic voices and soundscapes of the city, reflect the emerging demographics of New York; increase user-influenced content and update top stories impacting our audience on a daily basis.
About the Position:
The assistant producer/analyst will assist in the day to day running of the show. Working with hosts and other staff, assistant producers will complete assigned tasks and activities related to presenting the news, both on the air and across additional platforms (web, video, text, etc). Critical to the position is the ability to learn, build, manage and query the public insight network.
A successful assistant producer/analyst will embrace a collaborative work style in a team environment; keep up with a wide variety of news sources; be able to take direction and have the initiative to execute independently with minimal supervision; and thrive in a deadline-driven work environment.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct assigned internal and external correspondence for the show
- Assist with writing and editing prep for hosts as assigned

CULTURE EDITOR
WNYC seeks an experienced, high-energy individual to help develop, implement and expand online coverage of New York City music and culture on wnyc.org. The Culture Editor will play a lead role in developing and executing an online agenda that includes creating original, Web-exclusive music and cultural content; expanding online community through use of Web 2.0-like applications and strategic partnerships; and leveraging the wealth of culture content created for broadcast by WNYC Radio.

- Create a hub for a multitude of voices citywide and develop online communities around cultural content areas or categories

WNYC Digital Media Culture Intern - Fall 2008
WNYC Digital Media Culture is seeking sharp, enthusiastic self-starters excited about using new media for arts and culture reporting in New York City to help us create media such as blog posts, video shorts, radio stories, slideshows, and websites using radio, video and photography. ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Membership sets the strategic direction for the membership department and oversees its operation. WNYC has a member base of over 102,000 that donates over $12 million to the station annually. Responsibilities include overseeing direct mail and telemarketing campaigns, web and on-air fundraising, and gift processing operations. The position reports to the Vice President of Development.

One of the primary goals of this new, daily, program is to present news and cultural content in a multi-platform context that will engage, educate, surprise and occasionally even entertain listeners. The senior producer will lead the daily editorial meeting; will participate in the program on-air and online; will pitch story ideas in regular editorial meetings and be expected to plan out story coverage from conception to completion. - Develop and maintain recurring and occasional online features and tools for The Takeaway
- Produce and maintain content for thetakeaway.org
- With Web Editor, maintain quality assurance of all Web elements of The Takeaway
- With Web Editor, develop and maintain The Takeaway Web features promoting quality, user-generated content such as videos, text messages, photos, comments, graphics, and other features
- Stimulate action in the site's social network (groups, comments, microblogs, user-generated content, emails, etc.)
- With Web Editor, contribute to The Takeaway team's long-range planning and brainstorming
- Monitor online presence of content partners, the New York Times, the BBC, WGBH, and others and suggest ways of collaboration
- Collaborate with production, design and project management resources to set requirements, establish time frames, test and complete site development projects on schedule
- Facilitate and enable online digital distribution strategies (RSS, blogger outreach, podcasts, etc.)
- Other projects and tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required; prior journalism experience strongly preferred
- Minimum of three years full-time work experience developing online tools, features and community elements for online news sites
- Requires demonstrated technical proficiency with Web design and development, including HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, AJAX and frameworks (jQuery, MochiKit, YUI)
- Must have working knowledge of content management systems and blog software (Drupal, Wordpress, Movable Type)
- Requires experience coding in Python or similar scripting languages (Ruby, Rails, Django, PHP)
- Must have experience using PostgreSQL or similar databases (MySQL)
- Content distribution techniques, including RSS, social media and APIs required
- Requires proficiency with Flash and ActionScript
- Must have excellent critical thinking skills that demonstrate independent judgment and decision-making
- Ability to prioritize and handle several projects at once required
- This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends, and early morning hours
