GOP's Influence Wanes in New York
by Soterios Johnson
NEW YORK, NY May 21, 2008 —Republican lawmaker Vito Fossella will leave Congress in January. After a tumultuous few weeks following revelations he had a daughter with a woman who isn't his wife, Fossella said yesterday that he will not seek re-election.
Fossella is the only Republican representing New York City in Congress. His departure casts doubt on whether the GOP can hold onto that seat in a state that leans heavily Democratic.
Joining us now to discuss the future of the Republican party in the New York region is Terry Golway, director of the Kean Center for American History at Kean University in Union, New Jersey.
